Striding ahead

A sunset view with a boy cross country running

Peter Madirazza switches off in a way that not everyone would find relaxing, Forrest Gump excluded – he runs and then runs some more.

He might cover 40 kilometres a week and more than twice that when training for a specific event, such as the upcoming 100km North Face Endurance Challenge. Peter and his wife Karen have also made some great strides financially by setting their family up for the longer-term with thanks to their fifteen year relationship with Invest Blue’s Steve Sewell.

Tamworth born and bred Peter is a country man at heart.

He and his family love the outdoors and enjoy whiling away the weekends pottering about on the riverfront property of his parents, just a few minutes away from their family home in town. Peter, now 44, met his wife Karen when they were both uni students at Armidale’s UNE over 20 years ago.

IMGP0255The couple are pleased and proud that their two children, Aaron (16) and Emily (14) plan to follow in their footsteps and study at university in the near future. And thanks to their forward-thinking parents, the Madirazza children will have the added advantage of having their uni fees covered.

Peter and Karen have always considered their association with Invest Blue to be long-term and rather than setting small, specific goals, their plan is to achieve financial independence and have the option of retiring when they choose to. With that said though, they have reached some wonderful milestones in the short-term such as establishing an education fund for their children. They are also in the fortunate position as a family of being able to pursue the things they enjoy – trips away for race events for Peter and both kids will travel overseas with school this year.

As an accountant, Karen’s certainly great with numbers but when it comes to the couple’s financial portfolio, she’s happy to leave it in Steve’s more experienced hands. The Madirazzas have great trust in Steve and enjoy working with someone local that provides honest, straight-forward advice. The couple describe their working relationship with Steve as an open and easy one and say, “it has always been this way.”

Peter and Karen like dealing with a family–orientated person with similar values and interests too.

“Apart from our shared appreciation of sport and cricket especially, we find Steve very reassuring. Thanks to Steve, we know we have all the facts when the time comes to making decisions. He gives us peace of mind that we’re doing the right thing for our longer-term financial future.”

Peter and Karen feel fortunate to have someone on their side to help them gain financial independence and ultimately, aid them in retiring on their own terms. There’s no doubt that this couple will the staying the course with Steve and Invest Blue.

And speaking of courses, we wish Peter all the best with his upcoming 100km endurance event and other such challenging and arduous races in the future. And when the going gets tough for Peter during the event, he’ll no doubt do just what he and Karen are doing with their finances – simply and wisely putting one foot in front of the other to get them closer to the finish line.
